WLB Environmental Commission Recycles

West Long Branch: The twice-a-year Environmental Commission Recycle Day in the borough was held last weekend with good results, Councilman Steven Cioffi reported at the May 16 Council meeting. The EC holds the spring event where various reclamation businesses are scheduled for pick-ups.
The borough was one of the first in this area to hold this special recyclables event in response to the increasing awareness of environmental dangers which improper disposals of certain material and products may cause to the ecosystem, including water supplies.

The “take in” was comparatively light as compared to fall recycles, which is typically scheduled to coincide with the borough-wide Garage Sale Day. The increased drop offs is attributed to residents bringing in leftovers to the recycle event held in the afternoon of sale day.

The volunteers last week did collect electronics, old clothing, and other items. The big hitter was material for shredding, papers that need to be secured when they are disposed. The shredders processed about two tons of paper this time, a fairly large amount when compared to earlier spring season events.
