Thursday at the Beach Features "The Shots"
|
Long Branch: The Shots a bagpipe enhanced rock and roll band with lots of blues and pop music hit the stage at Festival Plaza for “Thursday At The Beach”. It was one hot night on the boards in Fun City. Shops were open for eats and treats, and many were still on the beach ending a beautiful day.
Music lovers were open to entertainment and they got it. Even in the 90+ heat some dancers came out to groove to the unique sounds, while seated fans tapped their feet singing along with the more familiar numbers. Bagpipes, guitars, drums and a didgeridoo made up the instrumentation.
A didgeridoo is an Australian device that comes in all sizes, colors and shapes. This one played by Lenny is about 6 feet long, a medium blue, and tubular in design. It has a unique sound - the timbre of a fog horn and the range of a bass drum, but strangely romantic.
The plaza was a cool place to be on a hot night. Kids could play on the grass. Parents could settle in a folding chair and listen as the baby sat. And grandparents could spoil the little ones with sweet treats. The Plaza is a safe place to be where car traffic is prohibited and LBPD Police Explorers complement the regular force with an assuring presence.
The next Thursday at the Beach will feature The Billy Walton Band. This Sunday, the 24th it’s “Blues By the Sea” at West End Park on Ocean and Brighton Ave. Enjoy the many area restaurants and ice cream spots. Bring a folding chair or beach mat and groove to the great summer sounds in Fun City.
