Shrewsbury: From how to scrap your electronics to how to make your own compost, Shrewsbury Earth Day had it all. The event was host to several stations each having a specific message to convey to participants. Mayor Donald W. Burden was active in both educating and learning during the event. The Mayor commented, “It is the Fifth Earth Day event, and we will continue to do it.” He remarked, the community is supportive of the event and its educational function.
The table representatives focused on issue such as Clean Ocean Action, Mandatory Recycling, Prescription Drug Recycling, and Energy Efficiency. Environmental Commission Member Jill Gwydir was present and overseeing the event. She was even a proxy table presenter for Clean Ocean Action, as they were cleaning beaches all day.
Mayor Burden added that the construction of a new community garden would begin early May, outside of Borough hall. The Mayor was proud to show that local vendors such as D’Jeet and Eastern Mountain Sports came to support the cause. D’Jeet a restaurant located in The Grove was present in support and brought delicious food samples for the participants.
