Tak 5 Run/Racewalk Series Begins Today
Long Branch: The Shore Athletic Club’s 48th Annual Lake Takanassee Summer Series starts at 6pm today at “Lake Tak” on Ocean Avenue by St. Michael’s, the iconic red church. The Tak is believed to be the longest running event in the country and has been at its present location for many years.
The main event is a 5K Run and Racewalk. Immediately following is the 1,500 meter event for youngsters, which goes off at 6:30. The Tak 5K will begin at about 6:45.
The LBPD will block the street and keep it safe with hands-on traffic control. Half the roadway is usually left open to one-way traffic. Expect a slow go through the area if traveling in anything but running shoes.
There will be a lot of familiar faces from years past. You can expect to see Bob Hayes from Ocean proudly wearing his 30-year old Lake Tak T-shirt.
The Tak is every Monday at 6pm with the next race on July 2nd. The Series concludes on August 20th.
