RBR SOURCE Encourage an “A” Program Challenges Students to Academic Excellence
|
Red Bank: Forty students from Red Bank Regional (RBR) were treated to a dinner overlooking the majestic Navesink River in late April celebrating their academic achievements in the Encourage an “A” program. The Elk’s club in Red Bank was the setting, as students were called up to accept their prizes which grew in value with the number of As they earned on their third period report cards. The gifts, all funded by the SOURCE Foundation, ranged from gift certificates to IPODS, DVDs and the grand prize, a 26” Flat screen TV. Anna Hernandez of Bradley Beach was the high scorer this year with straight As, a duplicate report card from her second marking period. She stated that she intends to give the TV to her mother.
RBR Source Coordinator Suzanne Keller comments, “We choose the third semester for the celebration so students are motivated to continue their hard work as the year progresses. We also encourage these students to give back to the program by tutoring others who might not be able to make the same high grades.”
The SOURCE is a School Based Youth Services Program whose mission is “To remove all obstacles that impede the success of young people in the community.” This is accomplished by offering services to students and their families including; individual, group and family counseling, preventative medical and dental care, academic support, scholarship opportunities, and recreational and cultural events.
