Oceanport Promotes New Police Lieutenant

OCEANPORT: The borough's police department has promoted one of its own to the position of lieutenant.

Michael Fagliarone was promoted during the March 16 Oceanport Council meeting in front a room full of fellow officers as well as several members of the Oceanport Fire Department. The officers were on hand to support him as two members of the borough council, Patricia Cooper and Stuart Briskey, said at the previous meeting that they opposed his promotion because they felt there were other, more qualified, candidates.

However, when it came time to vote on Fagliarone's appointment, Councilmembers Joseph Irace, Steven Solan and Ellyn Kahle voted in favor of his promotion. Councilman Richard Gallo recused himself from voting because he said he "has a family member on the force."

The crowd gave a large round of applause following the vote, and some later got up and thanked the council for following Oceanport Police Chief Michael Kelly's recommendation of promoting Fagliarone.
