Ocean Township Council Planning Strong

  Email

OCEAN TOWNSHIP: The big item on the Ocean Council agenda for June 8 meetings was the new manager appointment of Michael Muscillo. The sentiments indicated his experience and skills will back up the work going on in the "planning" mode.

Key to that mode is expected to be a new capital budget planning process developed by the township's Stephen Gallagher, Director of Finance/Tax Collector. He has developed a planning process which Councilman Rich Long praised for its usefulness to the short term a long term ability for Council and department heads to get an improved handle on the capital budget. The process will allow capital expenditure to be applied to respond to short term needs while managing tax rates to smooth out tax changes so as to better temper year to year increases from a resident viewpoint.

The OT Finance Director got big kudos from the council along with compliments and thank you from residents who addressed the council for other matters, adding their compliments for Gallagher's accomplishment. Gallagher also got a big nod for the fact that the recent audit came out clean as a whistle - no corrections needed, full compliance.

On another matter, Council approved a four-year extension of the shared services with Eatontown for dispatch services through June of 2021 at a fee of $24,500 Year 1, and increasing by $500 for each of the following years.

The Italian American Association of Township of Ocean (IAATO} got the nod to hold its annual festival the week of Aug. 9-13 at Palaia Park, in the Southeast quadrant of the grounds. Appropriate insurance and Fire Marshall approval will apply, as in other usage cases.

In an informal discussion of the mayor with a residents interested in the Shade Tree Commission, he asked her to contact him so details can be accomplished.

"It is an easy and happy task for me" he told the woman.

The Shade Tree and the Environmental commissions welcome volunteers who help keep the town beautiful, well treed (a necessary tree canopy desire) and aid with projects they will lead with the volunteers, some from the scout and the schools.
