OCEAN TOWNSHIP: Opening day plans at Colonial Terrace golf course had to be scrapped as heavy rains washed out the play on Saturday, April 1. Sunday was a different scene as more than 20 golfers had teed off in bright subshine by mid-day, much to the delight of Course Professional Dale Shankland.
Mr. Shankland and Ocean Township golfer Kevin Tetti chatted briefly before Kevin struck out on his own for the first tee. Club Starter/Ranger Jack Murphy was also on hand.
Arriving at 11-ish was another foursome unloading clubs form their car trunk to join the play. Plenty of time to get in 9 holes.
The course looked in great shape and the brisk breeze was no mind-changer.
Mr. Shankland told Word on the Shore the discounted rate for the month of April is just $13, which goes back to the usual $19 in May. Resident rates apply as well.
"And there is always time for 9 holes" Pro Shop Office Assistant John Adams said as he and volunteer Steve Ireland tended to some chores.
John said there are two men's leagues, Tuesday and a Thursday if readers have an interest. Stop in the shop and fill out forms.
For the women golfers Tuesday and Thursday mornings are also league days. Tuesday it's Linda Maltzman (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Thursday it's Lori Sadwith (email@example.com) who can be contacted.
There is also professional training available and the pro shop 732-775-3636, can help sign you up. The course is at 1003 Wickapecko Drive, off Sunset, one block east of highway 35, north of the Asbury circle.
