Eatontown: The Marine Academy of Science and Technology held its 30th year anniversary for staff of the Marine Academy of Science and Technology for graduate students and parents on Saturday at the Sheraton Hotel ballroom in Eatontown.

There were 170 attendees, including graduates of the school’s first Class of 1983. A part of the Monmouth County Vocational School Distract, MAST has 275 students enrolled in a typical year.

Principal Paul Christopher welcomed the guests; MAST PTSA President Jill Henry spoke briefly followed by Senior Class President Patrick Witterschein.

CDR Thomas Gorman USN (Ret) and Marine Technology Curriculum’s David Alfonse recounted the early history of the school and shared several anecdotes that brought back memories for guests. Conversation consisted of both humorous and more serious events, including the school’s near closing at one point. The state legislature came to the rescue to prevent that from happening.

It was a bright occasion with friends greeting friends and teachers they had not seen for years. A slide presentation continued through the morning with familiar faces and scenes on the giant screen at the front of the ballroom.

Among the guests were Lt, Governor Kim Guadagno, her husband Mike and son Kevin, a cadet at the US Air Force Academy home for spring leave.

Thank you from M.A.S.T. for such a beautifully done article. This school and the students and families donate so much of themselves to community events and I am honored to be a part. Bev
