OCEAN TOWNSHIP: One of the area's major highways will be repaved and receive several upgrades in 2018.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is planning a federally-funded Route 35 paving project.
The project is in its final stage of design and it will involve resurfacing two segments of Route 35 in both directions in the Word On The Shore area.
The first segment will repave approximately three miles between Logan Road and Armstrong Boulevard in Ocean Township. The second segment will repave approximately five miles between Wyckoff Road in Eatontown and Allen Place in Red Bank.
In addition to repaving, the project will provide guiderail, sidewalk, drainage, and ADA improvements where required, according to NJDOT Public Information Officer Dan Triana. Several signalized intersections also will be improved.
The following seven Route 35 intersections are expected to receive traffic signal upgrades:
5.) CR 537 Tinton Avenue/Former Fort Monmouth - Eatontown
6.) White Road/Thomas Avenue - Shrewsbury
7.) Monmouth Street - Red Bank
The following four Route 35 intersections will receive more moderate improvements such as signal timing adjustments, signage and restriping:
1.) CR 547/Wyckoff Road - Eatontown
2.) CR 13A/Sycamore Avenue - Shrewsbury
3.) CR 10/West Front Street (Rt. 35 NB) - Red Bank
4.) CR 13/Rector Place/ North Bridge Avenue - Red Bank
Triana said the project is expected to begin in early 2018 and will be completed in 2019. He said it is still too early in the planning process to provide a cost estimate. Bids for the project are expected to be opened on Thursday, Nov. 2.
