The following is a press release from Rook Coffee:
Rook Coffee is proud to announce that The Fourth Annual 5K Rook Run (and walk) presented by World Subaru, raised over $359,000 on Sunday, Oct. 8. All proceeds benefit The Valerie Fund, a 501(c)3 non-profit that provides comprehensive care for children with cancer and blood disorders.
The Fourth Annual Rook Run (and walk) took place at the Great Lawn Section of the Long Branch Boardwalk and welcomed over 3,100 participants to the event. The fundraising goal for 2017 was $350,000.
"With all that's going on in the world today, it was quite refreshing to be somewhere with so many positive, caring and giving individuals together, in one place, at one time," said Holly Migliaccio, Co-Founder/CEO of Rook Coffee. "Gathering our staff, family, friends, fans, customers, and Valerie Fund supporters, The Rook Run has become an emotional day of love and togetherness that we are more and more proud of year after year."
Proceeds from The Fourth Annual Rook Run (and walk) support The Valerie Fund's mission to provide comprehensive healthcare for children with cancer and blood disorders. There are seven Valerie Fund Children's Centers treating over 6,000 children in the tri-state area, including one at The Unterberg Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch.
"We are so proud to have yet another opportunity to celebrate the courage and resilience of children being treated for cancer and blood disorders. The event is great fun for the whole family and its extraordinary success has helped fund the Palliative Care Program at nearby Monmouth Medical Center," said Bunny Flanders, Director of Marketing and Communications at The Valerie Fund.
World Subaru (worldsubaru.com), The Rook Run's lead sponsor, raised nearly $44,000 for The Valerie Fund and raffled off a brand new, 2018 Subaru Forester (approximate value $28,000) at the awards ceremony following the race. World Subaru joined nearly 60 other sponsors donating their time, funds, products and services to the event.
"We were excited to partner with The Valerie Fund and Rook Coffee at this year's run and walk," said Joe Wajda, Executive Manager at World Subaru. "World Subaru's team had over 65 runners and walkers, and we look forward to being involved for years to come. The work the Valerie Fund is doing on behalf of N.J. children battling cancer and blood disorders is amazing, and we are honored to support their efforts."
In 2016, The Third Annual Rook Run saw about 3,000 participants and raised over $213,000 for The Valerie Fund. To date, The Rook Run has raised over $822,000.
