Little Silver PTO Has a New Executive Board for 2012-2013

Little Silver:  At the General Session meeting on Monday, May 14, 2012, a new Executive Board for the Little Silver PTO was voted in.  Taking over as Co-Presidents for the new school year will be Claire Harbeck Izzo and Phyllis Sauer.  Lorry Talavera will serve as Recording Secretary, Beth McLoone as Corresponding Secretary, Mary Chamberlain as Assistant Treasurer, Gretchen Kane, Treasurer and Kristen Gardener as Events Coordinator.

The Board manages over 40 sub-committees who carry out the PTO's goals of fundraising, curriculum enrichment, providing teacher and administrative support, and organizing special activities for children in grades pre K-8.  Given the economic environment, this can seem like a daunting task. 

Harbeck Izzo serving as a Co-President sees one of her biggest challenges in her term ahead to be keeping the “volunteer” momentum going throughout the PTO.  She is aware that parents are busier than ever with their jobs and their children’s extracurricular activities.  She plans to spend a lot of time brainstorming with the new Board over the summer on how to keep “volunteerism” alive!

She is thrilled and honored to be working with such a smart, dedicated and energetic group of individuals and made a point of thanking past PTO Presidents for helping to select them for the Board.    Harbeck Izzo first got involved in the PTO five years ago so she could be more connected with her children, and has found that the PTO has connected her with other parents in town as well.

Next year will be her third year on the executive board, and she is well aware of the challenges that lie ahead. The big unknown for next year is what the PTO we’ll be doing for the big spring fundraiser. If anyone has any ideas, they should feel free to contact her. 

The new Board wishes to recognize the outstanding contributions of outgoing 2011-2012 Board members Michelle Lane (Co-President), Rosemary Knowlton (Treasurer), Jennifer Chauhan (Public Relations) and Jennifer Barkey (Executive Liaison).
