Oceanport: The Shrewsbury Yacht and Sailing Club (SSYC) held their annual Junior Sailing Fund Raiser this past weekend in the newly renovated out building. This space was severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy and was almost at a complete loss. After months of reconstruction, the SSYC decided to open the doors by holding what will be the first of many events in the building.
Those in attendance were treated to hot dogs with all the toppings, snacks, soda, and adult beverages. Members, thier families, and guests gathered both in the building, on the deck, and on the pier to both admire the newly finished space and catch up with new and old friends.
Members, guests, and community members donated items for a gift auction. Items in the auction included: SSYC clothing and apparel, a Hess Truck gift basket, make up kit, various types of nautical jewelry, beach attire, boogie boards, American Girl Doll accessories, floral arrangements, private photo session, wood cutlery, a Shark Freestyle Watch, and various gift certificates to local and regional restaurants.
The event ran from 4:00 to 8:00pm and raised around $4000. Approximately 100 people came out to both celebrate the rehabilitation of the Junior Sailing facility and to raise money which will offset some of the hard costs associated with running the Junior Sailors program.
