Jan. 5 Marks Anniversary of Death of Local Musician, City Employee

On this day four year ago, local musician, Long Branch employee and my father-in-law Herbert Van Note III died from complications of pneumonia.

Herbie was a father of two girls, a member of the Long Branch Department of Public Works and the drummer of the band After The Reign, which plays annually in Long Branch during its summer concert series.

In 2014, his daughters established the Herbert A. Van Note III Music Scholarship at Shore Reginal High School, the high school that he attended. There have been three recipients of the scholarship thus far.

However, in order to keep the scholarship going, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help keep it alive.

Anyone who is interested in learning more about Herbie and anyone who would like donate to the scholarship can do so by clicking here. So far the fundraiser has reached $200 of its $2,000 goal.

Continuing the scholarship will allow future students a jump start toward their passion in music academia.
