Red Light Cameras

A resolution was approved to award a 3 year contract to American Traffic Solutions of Arizona to install automated photo enforcement systems at busy borough intersections. The violations won't issue points, but will issue summons for fines.

All but Councilman Mark Regan voted in favor of the resolution with Mr. Regan casting the lone "nay". "I have a concern for the increase in rear end collisions that studies have shown in the first year of operation", said Regan. Regan clearly felt that the need for safety outweighed the need for revenue.{{more}}

Borough Administrator George Jackson agreed that while there has been shown increases in rear end collisions with photo enforcement, that number decreases after the first year. "What the system does is prevent more fatal t-bone accidents", said Jackson.

Either way, expect to see Vehicular Paparazzi at a busy intersection near you soon.

Police Jurisdiction of Fort Monmouth -- Off Base

Police jurisdiction on the main base has been turned over to the NJ State Police. But traffic traveling on Hope and Pinebook Roads in Eatontown need to be mindful of both Eatontown PD and NJ State Police.

Eatontown PD has primary jurisdiction on Hope and Pinebrook but with the uptick in State Police presence going to the main base, motorists can expect possible violations being written by both. Police Chief Michael Goldfarb pointed out, "There will be a lot of troopers around".

Bottom line...Keep to the posted speed limits and traffic rules and you won't have a problem.
