FMERA To Celebrate 100th Anniversary of Fort Monmouth

OCEANPORT: The 100th anniversary of Fort Monmouth will be celebrated in conjunction with Flag Day and the 242nd birthday of the US Army next month.

The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) will host the ceremony on June 14 at Cowan Park at 2:30 p.m. The park is located at the fort just inside the main gate off of Oceanport Avenue.

The American Flag flew over Fort Monmouth For 94 Flag Days from 1917 to its closing in 2011 and FMERA has continued the tradition for the last five years. Flag Day is held on June 14 each year to to commemorate the the adoption of the Flag of the United States in 1777.

For this year's event, the first 100 attendees will be given a Fort Monmouth 100th anniversary hat.
