SANDY HOOK: Six people were rescued from a capsized boat near Sandy Hook on Labor Day.
A Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook boat crew received a distress call from a boater stating that their 22-foot pleasure craft was taking on water and sinking with six people aboard around 1:30 p.m.
The boat crew arrived on scene about five minutes later and with the help of a good samaritan who also received were able to rescue the passengers. The Sandy Hook crew took three people aboard their boat and the good samaritan rescued the remaining three.
All six people were uninjured during the incident and were taken to the Atlantic Highlands Marina.
The boat capsized in shallow water and is anchored and marked until the owner can retrieve it.
