The owner of the old Oceanport Village Center will soon be making some big changes to the building and property.
The building, also known as the Teicher property, is located at 275 E. Main St. and currently contains retail on the first floor and offices on the second floor.
The owners, doing business as Market on Main LLC, received site plan approval and variances from the Oceanport Planning Board to permit the removal of the existing partial second floor currently located over a portion of the first floor of the existing building, and the construction of a new second floor over the entire first floor.
The new second floor will contain a total of 20 residential apartments, consisting of one studio apartment, eleven 1-bedroom apartments, seven 2-bedroom apartments, and one 3-bedroom apartment. Three of these apartments will be affordable housing units. The first floor will remain unchanged with the exception of a new lobby.
Oceanport Councilwoman Patty Cooper, who also sits on the planning board, said there will be no disruption to the businesses as the second floors will prefabricated.
More parking spaces will be added to the front and rear of the building and its facade will be improved as well. There will be one entrance to the property from E. Main Street and another on the side of the lot.
The owners are also making additional landscaping, curbing and drainage improvements to the site.
The improvements are expected to begin within the next few months.
