ASBURY PARK: McLoone's Asbury Grille has been given a total makeover which includes a new name, menu and look.
The restaurant, 1200 Ocean Ave. along the Asbury Park boardwalk, is still owned by Tim McLoone but been renamed Robinson's Ale House and will feature a menu that is almost identical to the other Robinson Ale House located on Broad Street in Red Bank.
McLoone said the Asbury Grille needed a new identity.
"We had never established an identity," McLoone said. "Now there's a concept here."
McLoone said people always enjoyed going upstairs to the "Supper Club" room which features musical performances, and liked eating outside, but never "had a reason to eat downstairs." The downstairs now has a nautical style with new seating, lighting, and a revamped bar which will specialize in several different types of beers. More outdoor seating has also been added along with a new waiting area with tables.
The menu will be almost identical to the one at the Red Bank location but some of the favorites from the Asbury Grille such as crab cakes will remain.
"We're trying to do the highest level of comfort foods you can get," McLoone said.
He said that even with comfort food such as burgers and grilled cheese, flatbreads and beer, customers who want something a little fancier can go for something like the twin filet medallions with a fine wine.
McLoone said there are two big compliments he gets at his restaurants that he hopes to continue with Robinson Ale House
"The first compliment is that people trust us on special occasions..and the other is that almost no employee leaves us to go to another restaurant," McLoone said. "I always felt that was a big thing."
Renovations are almost complete and Robinson's Ale House will likely be open by Memorial Day weekend.
